The first FDA-cleared 1726 nm laser to treat acne at its source — overactive sebaceous glands. Three sessions, long-term clearance, no systemic medication, no daily routine to maintain.
FDA-cleared · 3 sessions · No oral medication
What it is.
AviClear is the first FDA-cleared laser specifically engineered to treat acne at its source. The 1726 nm wavelength is preferentially absorbed by sebum (the oil that overactive sebaceous glands produce in excess), and the controlled heat selectively damages the glands themselves while leaving surrounding skin unaffected. Less oil produced means fewer clogged pores, fewer inflammatory lesions, less acne.
It's the first non-systemic option that addresses the same root cause as oral isotretinoin (Accutane) — overactive sebaceous glands — without the side effect profile, prescription requirement, or pregnancy contraindications of the oral drug. Three sessions, then significant long-term clearance for most patients.
Who it's for.
- Mild-to-severe inflammatory acne on face, back, or chest.
- Hormonal acne that doesn't respond fully to topicals or birth control.
- Persistent adult acne in the 30s and 40s.
- Patients who don't want or can't take Accutane — pregnancy, planning pregnancy, prior side effects, or simply wanting a non-systemic option.
- Cyclical breakouts tied to oily skin patterns.
- Body acne — back, chest, shoulders.
What to expect.
Three 30-minute sessions, spaced 2–4 weeks apart. We apply contact cooling, fit eye protection, and pass the handpiece across the treatment area in a calculated pattern. Most patients describe the sensation as warm snaps or a hot stone; cool air assists.
Many patients see a brief acne purge 1–2 weeks after the first session — that's the laser triggering existing follicles to clear. Improvement begins by 4–8 weeks. Most patients see significant clearance by month 3 and continued improvement through month 12. Touch-up sessions can be scheduled annually as needed.

Considerations.
AviClear is deferred during active herpes outbreak in the treatment area, active skin infection, recent significant sun exposure, photosensitizing medications, pregnancy, and (with our specific platform) skin types Fitzpatrick V–VI without specialist consultation. The brief post-treatment purge is normal and signals the laser is working.
